ACDEF intends to establish itself as a centre of excellence and a platform for interaction and action between scientists, policy makers, resource users and the donor community with keen interest in the sustainable environmental management and the wellbeing of the people in Africa particularly in the face of rising threats from climate change. To fulfil such a pivotal role, detailed knowledge about environmental goods and services, the key ecological systems and processes that sustain them, the current and emerging threats, as well as the socio-economic and political landscapes in which the people live is crucial.
In order to ensure that our work contributes effectively to positive changes in the way environmental goods and services are managed and that such approaches also contribute to improved livelihood for the people in Africa, ACDEF and partners are, in each of the project intervention site:
- Using the most relevant of the many frameworks currently used internationally in analysing environmental problems and linking them with human activities.
- Establishing where appropriate, a poverty monitoring framework and network to track and ascertain the impacts of project intervention on the livelihood of the beneficiaries.
